Humans, unfortunately, are tribalistic and one of the oldest instances of tribalism is men versus women. Men are frequently called pigs, trash, or other insults. I also want to point out that the internet is also critical of men too. You can read more about negativity bias here Negative information is often remembered in more detail and for a longer duration than positive information. There are likely thousands of posts on reddit that support women but you remember the posts that are negative and dismissive of women more. If I had to guess, a negativity bias is at play here. These are just posts that I personally remember seeing in the last two weeks.Ī negativity bias occurs because we tend to remember unfavorable comments and remarks more than positive comments. This is not an exhaustive list by any stretch of the imagination. With 9.2K upvotes from r/AskMen what are some thing you love about womenįrom r/gifs with 43K upvotes a woman being praised for not wearing a hijab because she doesn't want to Here are some examples: A post in r/pics this week 67K upvotes showing an all women firefighter brigade Īnother from r/pics with 57K upvotes a nurse helping out with the corona virus pandemicĪgain from r/pics with 126K upvotes a picture from international women's day However, I do want to show you that, in general, reddit is highly supportive of women. To be honest, I don't frequent those communities and I don't feel knowledgeable enough to comment on them. I see that your argument is mostly focused on r/unpopularopinion and r/AmItheAsshole. I don't know a single person who buys animal products where animal suffering was maximized intentionally and for entertainment value. Many conscientious meat consumers chose locally raised meat to increase the likelihood that the animal was treated humanely while alive. To summarize, there is a fundamental difference in eating meat and watching the suffering of animals for entertainment. In the case of Ssoyoung, there is no attempt at minimizing suffering and it could even be argued that the suffering of the animals is intended and maximized and this is part of the allure of her channel. Even in CAFOs, the attempted method used to kill the cows is slitting their throats after they have been rendered unconscious with high amperage current. The animals are bitten, torn to shreds, or eviscerated. Additionally, there is not a YouTube channel of a CAFO factory worker smiling and gleefully leading the cows to the literal slaughter.Īs others have mentioned, the death of the animals on her channel is not swift. CAFOs make their money by selling the meat NOT entertainment. Even in concentrated animal feeds lots (CAFO), where cattle are killed in inhumane conditions, there is no entertainment value in their death. The outrage is that Ssoyoung appears happy and smiling while killing animals for presumptive monetary and social gain. The outrage is not merely over the death of animals. I think that you're misunderstanding the outrage over Ssoyoung's channel.
